I enjoyed 'Cars 2'. While I don’t think it measures up to the original 'Cars' from 2006, that doesn’t mean it isn’t enjoyable. The story combines racing with spy elements; the execution isn’t amazing, but watching it play out is acceptable. A minor drawback is that Mater gets more focus than Lightning McQueen, which I feel was a misstep. Larry the Cable Guy's performance as Mater is fun, but he shouldn’t be the main character. They could have used a similar storyline with Owen Wilson and McQueen taking the lead roles. On the other hand, Michael Caine (Finn) is always great to hear; his character isn’t particularly memorable, though. The racing sequences are good, especially with the World Grand Prix. The parts of the story centered around those races were more engaging than the spy plot, and it was nice to see different countries through animation. Overall, it's a less strong film compared to the first one, but still quite decent for a Disney animated sequel.
