The movie "Carry on History" finds Henry VIII, portrayed by Sid James, fitting in a couple more wives into this silly historical comedy. Cardinal Wolsey (Terry Scott) and Lord Chancellor Cromwell (Kenneth Williams) find themselves dealing with the king’s whims as he marries “Marie” (Joan Sims), then decides to divorce her because she isn't eating enough so he can marry the lively "Bettina" (Barbara Windsor). There are numerous beheadings as the King juggles his desires for love and power, much to the annoyance of his staff, and I found it quite amusing. The writing is full of suggestive jokes, but they’re surprisingly witty this time around, with Williams, James, and Charles Hawtrey—who doesn't get enough attention as “Sir Roger”—performing adequately. This stands out as one of my preferred films from this group; it’s visually appealing, and perhaps Guy Fawkes should have seen it beforehand.
