The arrival of the notorious “Rumpo Kid” (Sid James) disrupts the quiet existence of Stodge City, a town known for its abstinence, despite objections from Judge "Burke" (Kenneth Williams). It doesn’t take long before alcohol is circulating freely, he's taken control of the town, and has also formed a connection with the captivating “Bella” (Joan Sims), who performs at the local hotel. Frustrated by these developments, the judge requests that the governor send a sheriff capable of maintaining order, but they inadvertently receive sanitary consultant "Knutt" (Jim Dale) instead – someone about as suited to upholding law and order as a person with one hand would be to juggling. Fortunately, he has the spirited “Annie Oakley” (Angela Douglas) to help him out, and things quickly escalate into something resembling an OK Corral showdown. Ultimately, this isn’t very enjoyable. Part of the problem might be that the American accents feel inconsistent, or perhaps because the plot itself is quite weak; I also felt that Jim Dale's reliance on slapstick comedy became tiresome. Charles Hawtrey’s portrayal of "Big Chief Heap" doesn't improve matters much, and the film seemed to drag on far beyond ninety minutes. It probably wouldn't be something John Wayne would seek out – nor is it one I’d prioritize.
