The film follows archaeologist "Prof. Crump" and his colleague "Prof. Vooshka" (Else Sommer) as they attempt to safeguard Roman mosaics located close to a campsite managed by the questionable "Maj. Leep" (Kenneth Connor). She has a clear interest in Prof. Crump, though he seems rather clumsy – perhaps some ketchup might assist them? The movie feels like an imitation of "Carry on Camping" (1969), but it’s a significantly weaker version. Windsor Davies ("Fred") dominates the film and his performance is overdone with constant, irritating laughter and somewhat vulgar behavior. Connor also appears to be past his prime, and even Joan Sims seems less vibrant in her reduced part. The entire series has devolved into an unpleasant and unfunny display of revealing costumes and older men behaving inappropriately. There’s nothing amusing about it; the situations feel forced, lacking any genuine appeal. For viewers in the UK, a new wave of comedic performers (including Ian Lavender and Donald Hewlett) are beginning to emerge, surpassing the lackluster talent assembled here. It's disappointing.
