It’s enjoyable, something I’d happily watch again, and I feel comfortable suggesting it to others. This is an excellent, small-scale story about growing up, specifically focusing on a young woman's quest for self-discovery amidst unusual circumstances. Initially, I have several reservations regarding the plot because her character possesses exceptional abilities—a photographic memory, a Harvard degree (she clearly had the potential to pursue advanced degrees), superior intelligence compared to those around her, and financial support from a wealthy family that covers her expenses. However, despite this, the issues she faces are genuine; they could have easily been far more severe. My primary concern stems from the fact that she acquired all of this knowledge simply because she was instructed to do so, lacking any personal guidance or direction. She could be pursuing anything that truly interests her, but a proper support system wasn't in place to guide her towards happiness outside of what’s depicted in the film. Given that she was “sent away,” it becomes an emotionally driven narrative centered on her struggles with social connection and confronting the possibility of failure. I suspect straight women will find more resonance with this movie than other audiences, as it delves into themes surrounding male attention and whether or not such validation defines a woman’s sense of self. Ultimately, the film conveys a somewhat humorous message: regardless of your advantages, life can still knock you down. Bel Powley delivers a fantastic performance; it feels almost like a one-person show with shifting supporting characters (or antagonists?), and she carries a significant portion of the weight.
