It didn’t really grab my attention. *Carne*, a sexploitation film made in 1968, tries some interesting visual techniques, but the narrative falls short. Even though it runs for under 90 minutes, it feels slow-paced and drawn out. As it goes on, its purpose becomes obvious, although there were many other approaches that could have been taken to make something genuinely enjoyable. The actors are passable; I didn’t find any of them particularly strong or weak. Isabel Sarli, Víctor Bó – the director Armando’s son, who had a relationship with Sarli at the time, so that’s… awkward – and Romualdo Quiroga are the most noticeable performers; Quiroga has a pretty remarkable evil laugh—quite impressive, really. At least it doesn't celebrate what happens on screen; it just lingers on certain moments for too long and doesn't manage to energize the story at all. It was a tedious experience for me. My previous movie choice was called *Fresh*, so if you speak Spanish, that makes for a rather funny pairing—completely by accident!
