It’s not exactly an enjoyable experience, though I might revisit it later, and I think people who like zombie or survival stories could find something worthwhile here. I don't typically care for Martin Freeman, but he is a capable performer, and you certainly see him frequently. Anthony Hayes does okay as the antagonist, however Caren Pistorius’s role seems limited to simply appearing attractive. Susie Porter and Simone Landers both deliver strong performances, yet their characters feel underdeveloped, possibly because they seem to be playing similar roles. There's a sense that many of the actors didn't fully connect with the film; they were present and delivered their lines, but few scenes have any real impact. It really does feel slow-paced—not only do you experience the isolating effect of being in vast stretches of wilderness, but even after reaching their destination, there’s a lack of activity, and they spend a great deal of time doing very little. Because one of the main characters is an infant, there's not much conversation happening, and the important exchanges we witness are often intense discussions about human rights that dominate most of the screen time. It’s not necessarily a “bad” movie, and I do appreciate it for its survival narrative; rather, it feels mostly hollow. This story could have worked well as a *Twilight Zone* episode—and likely would have been better—because you'd need to make every second count, unlike this film which seems to be padding out the length of the runtime.
