The storytelling in Captain Marvel feels disjointed, as if the filmmakers struggled to define its identity throughout production. Brie Larson seems to be working against both the script and the direction she received, ultimately failing to deliver a convincing performance. Introducing what appears to be an idealized character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't helpful at this point. What’s most lacking is any genuine emotional depth; it simply doesn’t connect on that level. It’s hard to understand the film’s purpose beyond tying up loose ends in the MCU and generating new narrative problems. Credit should go to those responsible for the makeup design and much of the visual effects work. The final grade is a C-.
