Raoul Walsh delivers an entertaining seafaring adventure set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars, feeling like three separate tales joined together. Gregory Peck portrays the main character, a formal Royal Navy captain tasked with supplying a questionable partner with weapons and ammunition. As circumstances in Europe, which are under Napoleon’s influence, become increasingly dangerous, he finds himself needing to fight his way across the ocean to defend his nation against French threats. Virginia Mayo appears as the romantic interest, while Robert Beatty and James Robertson Justice contribute effectively to ensuring the ship's safety and navigating the conflict that becomes intensely personal due to strategic decisions. It’s a classic, well-timed adventure story inspired by C. S. Forester’s character and is definitely worth seeing.
