Among all the movies Marvel Studios has released, Captain America: The First Avenger stands out as surprisingly overlooked, and it's an excellent war story told through the lens of a comic book. It’s about someone small accomplishing something significant. Red Skull works really well as a villain, largely thanks to Hugo Weaving’s performance. Peggy Carter is memorable, and Hayley Atwell brings real energy to her role. Tommy Lee Jones and Stanley Tucci also make strong impressions in their scenes. The film features impressive action sequences, characters that feel fully realized, and CGI that blends in effortlessly; it works perfectly well on its own. It’s disappointing that a lot of viewers only saw this movie because they felt they had to in order to prepare for The Avengers, since there's so much here worth appreciating.
