I’ve long admired Tony Todd's portrayal of Candyman, and I think this installment tells a solid story with performances from the cast that are quite good. Still, my enjoyment diminished once everyone began discussing its supposed commentary on racial issues. It felt unnecessary to frame it as something about racism when it worked perfectly well as a straightforward horror film.
