I found this to be enjoyable. *Candleshoe* begins more effectively than it concludes, though the film remains diverting throughout. The initial moments stand out, particularly when considering other Disney live-action films from that time; I initially felt unsure of the narrative’s direction—a definite strength. However, once the plot becomes more straightforward, some of its initial intrigue diminishes. The performers are all quite good. Jodie Foster, as Casey, delivers another noteworthy performance from her earlier career, and David Niven is superb in his role as Priory. Leo McKern also shines in his part as Harry; they all collaborate exceptionally well. The film also features pleasant music composed by Ron Goodwin. My sole reservation concerns the final scenes, which feel rushed and fail to adequately illustrate how certain developments occurred—specifically regarding Casey and Gwendolyn’s relationship. Despite that, I would definitely suggest watching this movie.
