"Call Jane" has a strong starting point centered around women's rights, and it’s made even better by the solid work of Elizabeth Banks, Sigourney Weaver, Chris Messina, and Wunmi Mosaku. The initial portion of the film is captivating, with an effectively written script and some smart musical choices that immediately pull you in. The narrative unfortunately slows down as it goes along, feeling like it repeats itself and becomes less interesting. It seems most of what’s important happens early on, so the final hour doesn't add much beyond a single specific event. The movie feels stretched out due to its length, and the director seemed to be trying to address too many topics. My connection with the main character and the story itself wasn't consistent throughout; it would strengthen and then weaken. It’s still a decent effort overall. Rating: C-
