For those who follow cinema closely or work as reviewers, it feels incomplete without seeing a Woody Allen movie each year. He’s something like Takashi Miike in Hollywood—he consistently produces films. Like Wes Anderson and only a handful of others, he has developed his own distinctive way of presenting stories on screen. His works are marked by their originality, and this is another romance with complications, initially set in Los Angeles before shifting to New York. A young Jewish American man hoping to make it in Hollywood asks for assistance from his uncle, who happens to be a very busy and well-known agent. He finds himself falling for his uncle’s assistant, but she discloses that she already has a boyfriend who is currently away. After several unexpected developments, the story evolves into a romantic entanglement. The question of who ends up with whom and how everything resolves itself brings the film to its close. As expected, Woody Allen's narration played a significant part in the way the story unfolded, and the relationship issues were told effectively. It started strongly, reached its peak in the middle section, but didn’t quite finish well. The ending didn't appeal to me, particularly the final 10-15 minutes. Fortunately, it avoided some of the predictable tropes, and the credits appeared before everything was fully resolved. That’s one way to wrap things up, although it isn’t as inventive as many films that use a similar tactic. Nevertheless, the film is still worth seeing due to its solid story, strong acting, and, naturally, Woody Allen himself. 6/10
