It felt exactly how I hoped it would, really good! Being an Irish vampire film, it goes back to where vampires originally came from. There aren’t many worthwhile vampire movies being made now; they all seem geared toward a young audience and are just fantasy films. In the past, these were horror stories featuring frightening, monstrous creatures—werewolves, for example—but modern movies depict them as cute, oversized wolves. Whether it's a vampire or werewolf movie, the outcome is similar. Films like 'Twilight' or 'Vampire Academy,' along with others, aren’t really my thing, even though I sometimes watch them just to be entertained and see what’s out there. I decided to watch this one because of Saoirse Ronan—I appreciate her work. But Gemma Arterton was excellent, as she always is. This is what I consider a proper vampire movie. Of course, themes should change from film to film; that doesn't mean you can completely disregard the fundamental concept. Neo-gothic style is something contemporary filmmakers often overlook because it creates that Dracula atmosphere. This one gave me everything I was looking for, so I enjoyed every moment of it. It’s always pleasing to see a movie that shows a world over a period of 100 years or more. As expected, the main idea revolves around survival and concealing one's identity. The suspense comes from figuring out who—besides humans—is involved and why, and that is revealed at an appropriate point in the story. If you liked 'We're the Nights,' then this movie would be a good choice. It’s not quite as impressive as 'Interview with the Vampire' was, though; it was directed by the same person. 7.5/10
