The film centers around "Billy" (Josh Hutcherson), who makes the choice to hold up a gas station where two women, "Melinda" (Tilda Cobham-Harvey) and "Sheila" (Suki Waterhouse), are working. One of the employees is peculiar, quiet, and withdrawn; the other seems more comfortable interacting with men. However, when the robbery unfolds, "Melinda" sees an opportunity to stand up to Billy. What follows occasionally veers into comedic territory as she manages to overpower him, binds him with tape to a chair (and then attempts sexual contact...!), before events take another turn—it’s something you have to see for yourself. The movie includes some rather bizarre scenes. Harry Shum Jr., who is quite striking, appears sporadically as a local police officer who proves largely useless, and the entire production, while fairly simple in terms of both its visuals and script, turns out to be an oddly charming and enjoyable film from Mike Gan. It perhaps could have benefited from trimming ten or fifteen minutes of introductory material about the characters and setting, but it’s still something I'd recommend seeing.
