Buried proved to be largely successful, and my overall enjoyment stems from how things conclude. The film effectively creates suspense, establishing an undeniable feeling of confinement. Its pacing is also handled well, which is quite remarkable considering the story unfolds in a single setting – Ryan Reynolds deserves recognition for that. My main reservation concerns the initial portrayal of the central character; he comes across as rather unsympathetic early on. This is problematic because the plot demands some level of empathy for Paul Conroy. At times, I found him more abrasive than frightened. This perception influenced my expectations regarding the resolution, and one of my (somewhat undeveloped) ideas was that it would take a turn similar to what's seen in Butterfly on a Wheel – an excellent film, by the way. It didn’t go that route, but the unexpectedness of events was pleasing. I might be being overly critical or perhaps overthinking the issue of his unlikeability. Regardless, it doesn’t significantly detract from my positive impression of the movie. I would definitely recommend seeing it.
