Neil Maskell proves surprisingly convincing as an anti-hero in this harsh yet skillfully put-together British revenge story. He goes back to familiar places seeking retribution against former criminal associates who wronged him, along with his wife and son. The film doesn’t shy away from brutality or gore; it's definitely not suitable for younger viewers or those easily disturbed! However, the plot feels fairly standard, and the resolution is rather chaotic. It would have been improved by a deeper connection to the story—we are thrown right into the action, and while we slowly discover what motivates "Bull," it remains unclear who his victims are and why he’s targeting them on his path to the final scene. David Hayman performs adequately in these tough-guy roles, as do the rest of the supporting cast. The film's narrative gains strength from its uncompromising handling of the subject matter. It simply moves too quickly, becoming repetitive, and by the end I had almost completely lost any feeling of compassion for this man who feels he has been wronged. Seeing it on a large screen enhanced the experience; the photography is often very personal and works well to amplify the shocking script at times. For me, though, the characters needed more depth so that I could better understand what he was going through.
