I recently finished watching Reds, a film that somehow failed to make John Reed an engaging character, and now I'm tackling Bugsy... which similarly manages to render Bugsy Siegel dull. It’s similar to what happened with Reds; Bugsy played a role in Luciano gaining influence during a fascinating period of American mafia history… something that is largely absent from this film. The connection isn't really explored at all. However, after his involvement with Luciano, Bugsy went on to build Las Vegas—that should be an interesting narrative, shouldn’t it? And yes, the story of building Vegas *is* fairly compelling, but they seem to overlook that and instead center things around a romantic relationship, treating the development of Vegas as almost an afterthought. So, I guess at least Bonnie and Clyde turned out well.
