This gangster film feels like a cartoon in many ways. The actors portraying the characters are children, and instead of violence with gunfire, they meet their end in comical fashion. The story focuses on conflicts between "Dandy Dan" (Martin Lev) and "Fat Sam" (John Cassisi), along with the clever actions of the main character (Scott Baio). Then there’s “Tallulah” (Jodie Foster), who is alluring and captivating, which contributes to the gently humorous nature of the film. There are several songs that help keep things progressing – "Bugsy Malone," "Down and Out," and "So You Wanna be a Boxer." They might not sound familiar by name, but you’ll find yourself wanting to move along when the group performs their well-planned routines. It's an acceptable movie, but I felt that the original idea became tiresome rather quickly, and the situations become somewhat predictable. Still, Foster and Baio have good chemistry together, and it is visually appealing—a parody of Al Capone’s world! It’s worth seeing, though not particularly impressive.
