Kristy Swanson portrays "Buffy," an ordinary teenage cheerleader preoccupied with everyday concerns like her relationship and what to wear for the senior ball. Donald Sutherland appears as "Merrick," someone who can perceive vivid imagery from her dreams. Suddenly, she finds herself in a graveyard at night, unexpectedly displaying impressive fighting abilities against vampires, discovering that she's being targeted by the powerful vampire "Lothos" (Rutger Hauer). Fortunately, the somewhat clumsy mechanic “Pike” (Luke Perry) is available to assist her as their town transforms into a feeding ground for new arrivals. It’s not good. The performances are over-the-top, particularly from Sutherland, Hauer, and Raul Reubens' "Amilyn," alongside excessive acrobatic sequences involving flips and somersaults. Swanson gives her all to the role; I can’t criticize her energy, and Perry is certainly appealing, adding a touch of lighthearted visual appeal to what is essentially a forgettable made-for-TV movie, mostly known for launching the television series five years later. I didn't dislike it, honestly. It brought back memories of the "Beverly Hills 90210" craze that swept through the UK in the early nineties, and considering it as a breezy teen film with minimal scares, gore, or horror, it’s just about passable.
