It seems like there may have been an error; the name of the town appeared as "Agry" when Buchanan (Randolph Scott) arrived, possibly with a missing letter. He hadn’t even managed to secure his horse before being confronted by Sheriff Lew (Barry Kelley), who made it clear he wasn't wanted. Taking that as a cue, Buchanan went to the saloon for a meal and a drink, where he was then approached by another member of the "Agry" family, the sheriff’s inebriated nephew Roy (William Leslie). Before that situation could resolve itself, a young Mexican man burst in and shot Roy in the stomach. The saloon happened to be owned by Amos (Peter Whitney), who along with the town boss/judge Simon (Tol Avery) were also members of the "Agry" family. When they suspected Buchanan might have been involved in the shooting, it appeared he was headed for a quick trial. Fortunately, Carbo (Craig Stevens) suggested that putting the killers on trial could be profitable; the young man shot just happened to be the son of a wealthy landowner who might pay $50k to save his son from execution. A court was quickly assembled and surprisingly the jury seemed to like Buchanan, leading to his release. However, Lew wasn’t someone to disregard easily, and deception soon followed, leaving our appealing protagonist owing a debt to Pecos (LQ Jones) as he returned to town hoping to recover his belongings, his gun, and prevent the "Agry" group from hanging Juan (Manuel Rojas). I thought this was one of Scott's stronger roles, and it’s certainly helped by a good cast and a fast-moving sequence of events that lead to an appropriate ending. The only thing I was left wondering about was why Juan shot the unpleasant Roy in the first place.
