It’s a rather successful movie centered around a circus. *Bronco Billy* moves along at a pleasant speed and has a strong cast, showcasing Clint Eastwood collaborating with people he's worked with before, like Sondra Locke, Geoffrey Lewis, and Bill McKinney; it’s unfortunate that Dan Vadis and Sierra Pecheur don’t quite seem to fit their parts. Of course, the film isn’t flawless—the casting issues are a problem, as is how Locke’s character shifts from being assertive to a stereotypical romantic lead. Still, it manages to inject some genuine emotion into its narrative. It also presents Eastwood in something of an unusual light, since his character displays considerable warmth, unlike the more self-centered roles he typically excels at. It reminds me somewhat of *Toby Tyler*, but this 1980 film is considerably better than that fairly standard Disney movie from 1960.
