It's a delightful film, but steer clear of the sequels—they’re as unpleasant as an ill-chosen holiday sweater. I suspect you have to appreciate romantic comedies to get something out of it; otherwise, many viewers who simply put up with them for their partners will likely be disappointed. It makes me question whether this movie would have been considerably worse if they hadn't selected such talented actors and actresses for the numerous lead and supporting parts. Fortunately, they assembled a strong cast, which keeps any unpleasantness to an absolute minimum. There are some uncomfortable scenes that don’t elicit laughter—maybe I’m just getting too old! (Although there isn’t really that much gray hair!) But despite those awkward moments, like a line from the film itself, I appreciate it exactly as it is, and I believe it should have remained untouched. That's my reference to the sequels. Please don’t ask me for more details. The first sequel devolved into what I previously mentioned—what the original could have become if they had stayed focused. And just today, I discovered a second sequel exists, so I’ll be giving that one a wide berth. Just enjoy the initial installment; let the rest of the series drift out there, just at the edge of your awareness.
