Reno on Bridget Jones's Baby

7/10 · Dec 24, 2016

It’s clear this installment was crafted by just two people! This film departed from the source material, unlike its predecessors; it's an original story set between the second and third books. Those who have already read the third book may find aspects of this movie predictable. The good news is that a fourth film has been officially confirmed. The director of the earlier movies returned for this one, and I commend the narrative, the writing, and everyone involved in its creation. I wasn't sure if another chapter would be successful, but it surpassed what I had hoped for. It features a straightforward plot and familiar locations, yet they’re handled with considerable skill. The diary has been replaced by an iPad this time around. Renee Zellweger was almost unrecognizable; I actually made the same observation in my review of 'The Whole Truth.' However, it's nice to see her back as Bridget. Colin Firth appears older than he is, but still delivered a strong performance. Hugh Grant isn’t present, though a new romantic interest—Patrick Dempsey—has been introduced. The storytelling feels different from what we experienced years ago, which makes sense given the characters have matured and the story reflects that progression. The film runs for two hours and includes some amusing moments. Fans of the first two movies will likely find this one enjoyable as well; it’s a worthwhile choice to watch. _7/10_
