Some friendships leave lasting marks. This film is very similar to the 2003 movie 'Thirteen,' but it's a French version. It centers on two seventeen-year-old girls: Charlie, who’s private and has asthma, and Sarah, a sarcastic newcomer with a mysterious past. Their friendship develops quickly as they begin sharing everything. However, their secrets are revealed just as rapidly, leading to conflicts and animosity. Once again, the story is based on a novel of the same name. It's Melanie Laurent’s second film as director, and she did an excellent job. It’s an intense drama from start to finish. The narrative focuses solely on these two girls—their first encounter, their relationship, and how things conclude. Other characters appear briefly and have little dialogue or impact on the plot. The first half feels a lot like the first half of 'Heavenly Creatures,' closely portraying the girls’ creation of an unbreakable bond as they engage in various mischievous acts. The second half resembles the latter portion of 'Thirteen.' While there's a fierce, catfight-like atmosphere, it avoids depicting drug use, which makes for a complete and worthwhile story. > With you, I feel bad. I lie; I am hard. > You make me play the bad guy. It’s unbearable. The question is: what can turn two best friends (girls) into enemies? That's how the story shifts, marking a turning point in the storytelling. But this film isn't just about fighting over a boy; there's something else that serves as the backbone of the narrative. Vulnerabilities become weapons used against each other. The dynamic of being victimized and becoming a perpetrator is fairly balanced. Confusing teenage emotions drive the plot forward with sequences of blame and forgiveness. I don’t understand why film characters sometimes look directly at the camera at the very end. It's because the entire movie seems to explain something, but that final shot gives it a different kind of meaning. Perhaps it suggests a change or reform, as often happens in coming-of-age stories—either for better or worse. You’ll have to watch it yourself to find out. The two lead actresses deliver impressive performances. The music, the locations—everything was well done and maintained the story's intensity until the very end, then abruptly releases it with a shocking twist. That’s where I felt slightly disappointed; the ending could have been more fitting for a strong conclusion. But there are no complaints about the rest of it; it’s a good teen drama that shows how love and trust can evolve into hate and disgust between two people. 7/10
