It’s a diving film that fulfills its purpose. *Breaking Surface* doesn’t really develop its characters effectively, but once the action moves underwater, the tension becomes palpable and the perils become clear. There are moments when it feels genuinely disturbing. Moa Gammel Ginsburg and Madeleine Martin both deliver solid performances, although I didn't find Ida, played by Ginsburg, as appealing as she should have been; the writing felt a little awkward there. The film provides some truly beautiful views of the surrounding scenery. Overall, I think it’s worth seeing. The brisk 82-minute length also means things don’t feel drawn out.
