Restrictions included prohibitions on employment, requirements to remain at home, and the abrupt closure of schools for girls, effectively destroying their aspirations for improved futures. Those who resisted these rules often experienced violence, imprisonment, or even death, particularly among activists challenging these policies. This documentary, directed by Sahra Mani, centers on these courageous advocates and offers a firsthand look at what they’ve been confronting. Their resolve to persevere, despite the risks, is genuinely inspiring as they fight for their survival and resist returning to past conditions. It's a vital narrative that warrants attention; from a personal viewpoint, the filmmaker does an excellent job portraying the hardships these women have faced. Nevertheless, incorporating additional background information would have strengthened this production, providing greater context for these remarkable stories. The intensely personal nature of the film—though well-presented—can feel somewhat repetitive at times. I recognize the difficulties inherent in making a documentary like this, and praise should be given to the director and crew for their bravery. However, the chosen method falls slightly short of maximizing the impact it could have achieved with more comprehensive coverage of the broader issues involved. The women deserve that. Afghanistan deserves that. And global awareness of the full scope of events is necessary if any meaningful change is ever possible.
