A Washington State lumberjack—played by Jason Momoa—must protect his family when they’re threatened by a gang of criminals dealing drugs deep within a snowy forest setting. Stephen Lang and Jill Wagner portray the father and wife, while Garret Dillahunt and Zahn McClarnon take on villainous roles. "Braven," released in 2018, is an action-thriller reminiscent of films like “Sugar Mountain” (2016), “Hold the Dark” (2018), “The Edge” (1997), and possibly "Cliffhanger" (1993). Though it doesn’t measure up to those movies, it's not a bad film and does have some things going for it. The story includes a lone-wolf hero aspect similar to what you see in Rambo films. A few of the action scenes stretch believability, such as the main character’s rope maneuver near the end. Still, I can accept that! The scenery is well done and the actors are good, along with an excellent musical score. There's a touch of "The Last of the Mohicans" (1992) in it too. Unfortunately, the movie doesn’t do very well when it comes to female characters. The runtime is 1 hour and 34 minutes, and filming occurred in Newfoundland, Canada, with some establishing shots showcasing the Great Northwest and a few computer-generated mountains in the background.
