Seeing this movie when I was fifteen felt like a monumental experience; it stood out as one of the best films I’d encountered up until that point. Now, at 41, with more life experience and historical knowledge under my belt, the depiction of the Battle of Stirling Bridge is jarring—it really bothers me every time I watch it. I recently shared it with my wife, though she was quite young when it came out, around three years old and living in France. It’s hard to put into words exactly how I feel about it. It's undeniably dramatic and atmospheric, possessing a striking visual style. Of course, it’s also a Mel Gibson film, so there’s plenty of violence—which is entertaining in its own way. The performances were strong, the music heightened the emotional impact, and it even inspired a cultural phenomenon in Scotland that continues to affect them today. Despite all that, it remains a genuinely good movie. I do have one question though: where exactly *is* the bridge?
