This is a genuinely charming animated movie coming from Disney. *Brave* works really well. The Scottish setting contributes significantly to its appeal, but the film also boasts a worthwhile message and impressive animation—just some of what makes it so good. The acting, characters, and musical score are all strong points as well. While the story itself isn’t groundbreaking, watching it play out is quite pleasant. The voice cast delivers excellent performances; Kelly Macdonald (as Merida) and Emma Thompson (as Elinor) were particularly memorable to me. Billy Connolly (Fergus), Robbie Coltrane (Dingwall), and Julie Walters (the Witch) also do great work. It’s an easy, enjoyable film that I found myself thoroughly entertained by.
