The movie initially evokes elements of the TV show “Kung Fu,” presenting a young deaf and mute boy undergoing rigorous training from an enigmatic and exceptionally capable shaman in a remote jungle setting. The reason behind this intense preparation becomes clear: society is controlled by the villainous, overtly theatrical "Van Der Koy" family, who annually execute their adversaries on live television. Does that sound familiar? Our silent, powerfully built protagonist (Bill Skarsgård) seeks retribution against them for murdering his family, spurred on by his teacher. However, beyond this opening, the film unfortunately lacks originality and feels like a lackluster action thriller overly dependent on somewhat humorous narration—essentially, his inner thoughts—to lead viewers through predictable fight sequences. It quickly becomes apparent where the story is headed. The more security present protecting something, the simpler it is for one person to… Michelle Dockery and Famke Janssen appear but their presence doesn’t enhance the film; in fact, Dockery's performance is noticeably weak, failing to convey any real threat even when adopting an affected accent. This movie seems designed as a showcase for fight choreography, but for most viewers it resembles “Hunger Games,” albeit in a significantly diluted form.
