The experience of watching Bottle Rocket didn’t really grab me, and while the ending was better than what came before, it wasn’t enough to change my overall impression of this first movie Wes Anderson directed. I wouldn't say I actively disliked it, though. Owen Wilson and Luke Wilson both appear on screen, which is neat because they aren’t playing brothers in the film—a surprisingly pleasant detail. Robert Musgrave and James Caan are also part of the cast. Owen was definitely the strongest performer for me, but all three leads were pretty comparable. I think it needed more humor; that's just a matter of taste, I suppose – lots of people will probably find it funny, I simply didn’t; there were some moments where I did chuckle, though. It also doesn't feel quite like a typical Wes Anderson film, his usual style hadn't fully formed yet, which is to be expected.
