It’s really not as awful as people are making out! It’s certainly lacking in fresh ideas throughout its run time, and it feels like a budget imitation of a video game, but I did find the combination of "Mad Max" and "Buck Rogers" somewhat diverting. The story centers on “Lilith” (Cate Blanchett), a famous bounty hunter who is hired by wealthy man “Atlas” (Edgar Ramirez) to locate his missing daughter “Tina” (Ariana Greenblatt). However, she’s already been freed by “Roland” (Kevin Hart) and isn't eager to go back to her father. While pursuing her, "Lilith" meets the film's real standout – the robot "Claptrap," a wisecracking collection of junk who offers his assistance regardless of whether she wants it or not, so they begin searching for the girl together. The plot unfolds exactly as you anticipate, with one exception: Jamie Lee Curtis’s baffling appearance (and her red glasses), where she seems to be having fun on set but, like Blanchett, feels misplaced amidst the uninspired dialogue and formulaic action sequences that essentially hand control of the movie over to the CGI team. It's not anything particularly remarkable or noteworthy; it’s just a standard action film transplanted to a desert setting. But if you go in with modest expectations and accept it for what it is – a lighthearted summer diversion – then it provides an acceptable viewing experience.
