I’d heard about the video game *'Borderlands'* before seeing the movie, but my familiarity with it doesn't go beyond knowing that it exists. Because I wasn’t acquainted with the source material, I can’t really speak to how faithfully this film translates it. However, as a standalone movie, it managed to entertain me. The plot could have been more substantial, certainly, but what we got was engaging enough to keep my attention from beginning to end—it's an enjoyable film. I appreciated the cast and their characters; they all seemed pretty interesting. Cate Blanchett is entertaining in her main role, Kevin Hart felt a little bit like he wasn’t given enough to do, though he was fine, while Ariana Greenblatt did well. Jack Black was my favorite part, which isn't really unexpected since I’m a fan of his work. His character contrasts with Hart’s Roland; in fact, I think the filmmakers should have featured him less—he gets too much screen time for a supporting role. Still, considering that he voices Claptrap, it would be hard to dislike seeing him on screen. *checks online reactions* Wow. I can see why people are comparing it to *'Guardians of the Galaxy'*.
