These movies surpass what one might expect, and it’s completely due to Sacha Baron Cohen’s involvement. I found 'Borat Subsequent Moviefilm' more entertaining than the earlier film from 2006, which depended too much on crude humor for my taste – although I still liked that movie overall. This follow-up manages to be a bit more inventive with its jokes while retaining the required absurdity and awkwardness. Cohen is outstanding in returning as Borat; he had me laughing frequently, and frankly, no one else could pull off this role—he somehow makes it function really well, his precise timing being essential. In the initial film, Cohen was partnered with Ken Davitian. Davitian isn't back, which is unfortunate, but I didn’t find his absence significant. Maria Bakalova takes over, and I worried her Tutar character would be annoying, but she proves to be anything but—Bakalova performs admirably alongside Cohen. It’s humorous in ways that are genuinely funny, yet also in ways where you realize you probably shouldn't be laughing – though that's essential for these films to succeed. It also has the same spirit as the original *Punk'd*. Solid satire.
