A group of young women gather at an outdated, deserted psychiatric institution on Halloween night. Predictably, things go wrong. Anthony C. Ferrante’s Boo could be seen as a sincere tribute to the haunted house genre, or it might just be considered one of the least inspired horror films released in 2005. The filmmakers seem to have included every possible scare tactic, with an extremely loud soundtrack intended to create maximum effect. The movie raises questions about what is genuine and what isn't, while also featuring a significant amount of gore. The performances are unremarkable, as is the script itself; however, the visual design and filming locations are reasonably well done. Ultimately, it’s a horror film that could serve as an introduction for younger viewers to more sophisticated scares they will encounter later on. It receives a rating of 4 out of 10.
