'Bob Marley: One Love' proved to be an agreeable experience while watching, although afterward it felt somewhat empty – as if I didn’t gain much insight or witness a great deal of substance; the film presents about three significant occurrences and then largely concludes. The music from those who contributed also seemed underdeveloped, seemingly because they wished to avoid making it overly reliant on familiar songs. Kingsley Ben-Adir delivers a solid performance in the central role portraying Bob Marley. I'm not particularly knowledgeable about Marley’s life or work beyond his most popular tracks, but I felt that Ben-Adir’s appearance wasn’t quite accurate – a feeling reinforced when the actual Marley appeared through archival footage at the film’s conclusion. That might just be my perspective, however. Lashana Lynch is good in her role, leading a supporting cast who are generally acceptable; it was interesting to spot James Norton and Michael Gandolfini as well... though I didn't recognize Gandolfini until after the credits. It does feel like the movie only touches briefly on Marley’s life story. I hoped for something more substantial, but ultimately I think it’s still a worthwhile film.
