Blue Beetle adheres closely to standard superhero origin story conventions, resulting in a rather predictable plot and a noticeable absence of originality; however, these shortcomings are largely overshadowed by the film’s strengths. The cast, composed primarily of Latino actors, delivers performances that feel remarkably authentic—Xolo Maridueña stands out as particularly noteworthy—and the movie is infused with the vibrant richness of Mexican culture. It's an enjoyable experience thanks to a blend of computer-generated action and well-staged fight scenes, accompanied by a lively musical score from Bobby Krlic. The film’s placement within the DCEU feels illogical, suggesting that James Gunn may have been hesitant to launch the DCU with a less established character—a decision that's easy enough to understand—but maintaining its connection to a cinematic universe on the verge of ending seems peculiar. It is certain that we haven't seen the last of Jaime Reyes. Rating: B+
