It’s hard to describe *Blonde*; there isn’t much about it that would make me recommend it enthusiastically. Still, the film clocks in at almost three hours, and I didn't realize how much time had passed – I usually glance at the timer when a movie drags, but I didn't do that here, which suggests I was engaged with what I was seeing. I’m not entirely sure why it worked so well, to be honest. It just proved captivating from beginning to end; the performances were strong and the production values are high. Initially, I had some reservations about Ana de Armas in the role of Marilyn Monroe, but those quickly disappeared as she delivered a truly impressive portrayal. I understand the negative feedback—biopics rarely adhere strictly to factual accounts anyway—but I tend to evaluate movies based on their merits as films, and this one is certainly enjoyable. It’s not groundbreaking by any means, but for such a lengthy film to feel so briskly paced, it clearly delivered what I was looking for.
