Leslie Brooks portrays society journalist "Claire," a woman who manages to create news through marriages to young men who subsequently meet untimely ends. While the authorities suspect foul play, concrete evidence remains elusive. The audience is privy to Claire’s actions, but whether “Capt. Murdock” (Emory Parnell) can uncover the truth before more lives are lost is uncertain. Despite a lack of genuine suspense, the film provides an opportunity for Brooks to embody a powerful, calculating woman who isn't hesitant about taking forceful action. Many of the men she interacts with seem to warrant their unfortunate outcomes, and by the story’s conclusion—which felt hurried and somewhat unbelievable—I found myself rooting for her. The production values are simple and lack creativity, but Jack Bernhard maintains momentum throughout, showcasing a considerable amount of unpleasant behavior, which I ultimately found enjoyable.
