The film draws inspiration from “Zatoichi Challenged” from 1967, though it’s likely Marvel's Daredevil also played a part in its creation—the character had existed for over two decades by the time this movie appeared. You can even detect elements reminiscent of "The Gauntlet," starring Clint Eastwood. What results is something quite enjoyable, featuring well-developed characters, impressive settings, plenty of action sequences, and some genuinely funny moments. Lisa Blount’s presence as a blonde actress is certainly welcome, along with several other female characters who populate the casino scenes. Interestingly, “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” would later take cues from this film just two years afterward. It's hard to understand why it isn't more widely known. The movie has a running time of one hour and twenty-six minutes and was filmed in Houston, Reno, and Squaw Valley—now called Palisades Tahoe—in northeastern California. GRADE: A-
