I wasn’t really prepared for what *Blade* turned out to be. I honestly didn't realize it involved vampires at all. It seems I was pretty clueless about these movies; I thought I was going to see a fairly typical superhero movie with some style – mostly because of the main character’s appearance, which is essentially all I knew beforehand. That isn’t really a negative point, since the vampire elements were enjoyable as they played out. However, Wesley Snipes is definitely what makes it work, because Stephen Dorff and his group of characters who lack depth are barely tolerable. Snipes, in the lead role, delivers an excellent performance, and Kris Kristofferson and N’Bushe Wright also do a good job. The special effects haven't held up particularly well over time, although some moments still look pretty good, and even the weaker ones manage to be acceptable. For instance, the effect used when vampires are destroyed looks fine, though the ending involving Frost’s blood seems a bit silly now – but it still functions within the story.
