Sam Shepard gives a solid performance, and the underlying concept holds some appeal; the cinematography and setting in Bolivia are truly stunning. However, adapting this story to film results in something tedious, and it’s disappointing to witness an actor of Noriega's caliber stuck with such a poorly written part. Ultimately, the direction didn't succeed in weaving together what seemed like promising elements into a cohesive whole.
