My impression is that people who actually write code—like those responsible for programs I appreciate, such as the Utopia peer-to-peer software—appear to have a distinct perspective and focus on entirely different priorities. Their aim isn't to cause problems for users; instead, they appear motivated by a desire to protect individual information.
