This is a thrilling, beautiful, and incredibly funny journey. However, it seems S.J.'s time is coming to an end. Welcome to the age of the prequel. A full-length review, presented in its entirety. Yelena Belova: {referring to Natasha Romanoff} "You're such a poser!" ⬜⬜⬜⬜ I absolutely loved it. I even went to see Black Widow twice because I missed the beginning the first time and appreciated it much more on the second viewing. As someone with their own difficult past, the drama between the main characters really resonated with me. The only real flaw, in my opinion, is that we won't see Scarlett Johansson reprise her complex and truly glorious role as Black Widow. This isn’t a spoiler; the film’s place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline has always been clear. I suggest you view the official trailer entitled "New Trailer" (YouTube, Apr. 03, 2021), where the rationale for Black Widow is explained well and narrated by Johansson herself. Here's a significant example: Scarlett Johansson’s sudden blonde hair in Infinity War, a look many of us came to adore after years of her trademark fiery red tresses, is finally explained. The film fills in gaps and addresses questions that often left me puzzled during the long waits between Marvel releases. It does this by showcasing previously unknown backstories and providing insight into the damaged relationships Black Widow left behind before her entry into Shield and defection from the Russian Secret Service. Kudos to Jac Schaeffer, Ned Benson (the story writers), and Eric Pearson (the screenwriter). A huge amount of talent is on display. Cate Shortland, the Australian director, has a tremendous track record in both television and film, with War-romance-drama 'Lore' being her highest earning movie until Black Widow. She’s brought together an exceptional cast, and special mention should be made of Florence Pugh, who excels as Yelena Belova. The production team also outdid themselves in every aspect, with the fight choreography in the Widows training scene featuring spectacular black-and-red clad girl assassins being particularly visually striking. Also noteworthy is that the five Russian accents performed by principal actors were convincingly delivered by actors from the U.K. and the U.S.A. If you go into Black Widow with an open mind, prepared to be entertained, you won't be disappointed. The film’s anachronistic nature did make watching it a bit strange initially, but once the familiar Marvel theme played, everything fell into place. It earns an unabashed 13 out of 10 from me. Scarlett Johansson will be sorely missed as Black Widow after one post-credits appearance and eight starring roles across nine films – what a memorable journey it’s been.
