I was generally enjoying myself while watching this movie… until the very end. It wasn’t that *Black Nativity* had a terrible finale; it simply felt incredibly contrived and awkward to watch. It's a Christmas film, so I suppose I should be somewhat forgiving, but I think it really could have wrapped up in a more satisfying way. Some of the choices the characters made also seemed strange at times. What helped me get through it was the cast—there are many familiar and appealing performers. Forest Whitaker, as Cornell, is genuinely excellent; his performance stands out as being better than good. Jacob Latimore (Langston) and Angela Bassett (Aretha) were also quite good, although I always enjoy seeing Tyrese Gibson, from *Fast & Furious*, on screen. Overall, it’s nothing particularly special in either direction—just average.
