I’ve now seen this movie twice, and I realize I didn’t recall very much of it between viewings, except for a few specific moments. The performances were acceptable, and so was the directing, but given the impressive group of actors—including Johnny Depp, Joel Edgerton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon, and several others—I expected something more substantial. It turned out to be an adequate film, certainly, but not particularly memorable. Also, Depp’s makeup really pulled me out of the story; it was quite noticeable. **3.5/5**
