This movie presents a difficult beginning. A young girl, Asjha Cooper, is walking home when she comes across New Orleans vampires attacking someone who appears to be without housing. After being targeted herself, she’s saved and then shares her injuries with her friend Fabrizio Guido and popular classmate Mason Beauchamp; afterward, the three of them begin training to fight these beings, ultimately becoming a sort of small-scale Van Helsing team. If the film intends to make a connection to issues of poverty within New Orleans, it does so in an overly basic way. As a horror movie, it doesn’t quite succeed – truthfully, if not for Mason Beauchamp's attractiveness and Andrew Penrow’s amusing performance, there wouldn't be much reason to watch this film. It’s puzzling why Blumhouse released something of such low quality; it isn't helpful to artists or viewers who appreciate more thoughtful entertainment.
