I’m trying to persuade my wife to watch this film, not because I think it’s particularly good, but because I suspect she will find its humor amusing. It has a type of comedy that people who are learning English might easily appreciate, without needing perfect fluency to understand the jokes... Although, she's become quite proficient in English now and is enjoying Monty Python, so maybe that point doesn’t even hold up anymore. Like I said, it isn’t a fantastic movie, but it sticks with you. It’s memorable simply because of its silly humor and mindless action sequences, which were perfectly suited to Gibson when he was making those kinds of fun, uncomplicated action/comedies. Looking back, it's almost like a cult film, because, truthfully, you are watching it mainly for Gibson’s personality and his comedic style. And keep in mind, this was made before the incident... which he publicly apologized for... and I personally don’t believe that people need to keep bringing up something after someone has already taken responsibility for their actions. Ultimately, you remember this film because it is a funny action comedy starring Gibson, and nothing else really matters. He also seems to steal the spotlight from Hawn in terms of humor in this one, which is surprising considering how hilarious she can be when she puts her mind to it. But here, I’m not sure she was performing at her best, or perhaps she just fell back into a familiar dynamic with another actor. Still, it doesn't try to be anything more than what it is; it accomplishes what it sets out to do and provides entertainment.
